Climate Catastrophe: Greta, what is the cause? Klimaatkrisis!

Preek Romeine 8 - Woorde uit sy Woning

A sixteen-year-old, Greta Thunberg, is sent halfway around the planet\r to scold world leaders at the United Nations: This earth is steering towards a catastrophe.\r There are tremendous and terrible changes coming.\r The term “climate catastrophe” has now become very common\r and desperate activists are prepared\r to go to any limit\r to avert this coming catastrophe.\r Green parties in the Western world are experiencing unprecedented growth.\r In a flood of emotions, fear and anger,\r all reasonableness is thrown overboard.\r Something drastic must be done!\r \r If you want to understand the essence of humanity's problem and God's answer to that, read the letter to the Romans. After nearly two thousand years, this letter, like the rest of the Bible, has resisted the test of time, and it only shines with urgent topicality today. Paul, the slave of Jesus Christ, had an intention to visit the Christians in Rome. For several reasons it was not possible and therefore he wrote to them a letter ... a remarkable letter. This letter explains the main doctrines of what he calls the Good News. The letter to the Romans would later become the fundamental document of the Christian doctrine. In this series of sermons from Romans, Rev Gustav Opperman guides you on this journey. To watch the entire series in the right order, please visit our YouTube channel, Woorde uit sy Woning (Words from his Home), main page: Brief summary: Romeine 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. Throughout the Western world protest actions are happening. An Extinction Rebellion, A Rebellion Against Extermination. The Bible believer and the climate activist do not speak from one mouth. First, the contractions of the mother described in Romans eight, are not the same contractions for the various groups. For the Greens, these contractions are actually last convulsions of a dying person. For the Bible believer, these are contractions of a woman before giving birth. A crucial difference (and this has already taught in Romans 1), is that humanity, who refuses to honor God the Creator, eventually ends up worshiping Creation itself, without God. According to the Bible, there is a sacred distance between Creator and his creation, between God and his creature and if man himself wants to be like God, then there are terrible consequences. In 1883, the island of Krakatoa exploded with an explosion 30,000 times heavier than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. More than 120,000 people were killed instantly. The sounc is heard 3,000 km further in Australia. The ashes in the atmosphere darkened the sun and the entire world lived in a crimson dusk for a year. The temperature droped by more than one degree everywhere. The weather patterns would only normalize 5 years later. And this is just one small example of climate change that God the Father, the Creator God brought over this earth ... and will bring in future ... Not that man should therefore be irresponsible ... That man should proceed to pollute oceans, to dump the raw sewage into the Vaal River, to pollute the atmosphere. In the gospels, the Lord Jesus describes how the world history will end: When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be dismayed, because it must come. But it is not the end yet. For one nation will rise against another, and the one kingdom against the other, and there will be earthquakes in different places, and there will be famines and turmoil. These things are a beginning of sorrows (Mark 13: 7-8). When the Lord Jesus refers to sorrows, it carries the meaning of a woman giving birth. And then we see, through the work of the Holy Spirit, that our Lord Jesus and his apostle Paul many years later were on the exact same page. The end is not annihilation, but the birth of a new heaven and a new earth. The first things will pass ... this accursed body of mine ... it's temporary ... I'm on my way to glory. Let our eyes and ears be on Jesus Christ. In Hebrews He says: Once more I leave not only the earth, but also heaven trembles. Once again I will not only shake the earth, but also heaven. And this word: one more time, clearly indicates the change of the shaky things as created things, so that the unshakable can remain. Therefore, because we receive an unshakable kingdom, let us be grateful (Hebrews 12:26 ff). Source/Bron: Romans 8:22 Klimaat Krisis Climate Catastrophe Oorsaak? Cause?
